Howard Hughes - The Aviator

Just saw The Aviator. By far, the most amazing performance was Cate Blanchett's Katherine Hepburn. However, I was intrigued with Howard Hughes' chart. According to Astrodatabank, he was born 12/14/1905 10:12 pm in Houston, TX. The source is "dirty"; however, the angles seem to correspond with his life.

Sun conjunct Uranus gives him brilliance as well as a predilection for air travel, as Uranus rules the sky and airplanes.

Pluto opposite Venus - compulsive relationships with women, to the point of paranoia. Pluto yearns to get to the bottom of things, to root out secrets, hence in the film he put a bug under Ava Gardner's pillow and in her bedroom telephone.

Pluto opposite Moon - being violated by his mother, in that she was emotionally incestuous with him.

The Capricorn Sun relates to striving for perfection, to be at the top; and Pluto elevated in the tenth house gives him a drive for power in his career.

Gemini Midheaven - dual vocational interests, i.e., film producer and aviator.

The Virgo Rising alone would not account for obsessive-compulsive disorder, but this sign relates to a general finickiness about germs and cleanliness. The chart ruler, Mercury, is opposed by compulsive Pluto.

Mars-Saturn conjunction - fighting (Mars) against obstacles (Saturn), e.g., Pan Am airlines and the Senator.

Mercury in Sagittarius - ability to persuade and convert through communication. Mercury opposite Pluto - the power of language to persuade. This aspect can be seen in the ease with which Hughes turns around the Congressional hearings against the Senator, thus defeating the bill to allow Pan Am to have a monopoly over international flights.

Sagittarius planets (including Mercury, chart ruler) - the bigness of things he produces, whether they be breasts (in the scandalous movie The Outlaws) or airplanes (the Spruce Goose).

Interestingly, Scorsese's Uranus is conjunct Hughes' Midheaven, brilliantly awakening to public consciousness the contributions Hughes made.

I just saw The Aviator the other night, having not known much previously about Howard Hughes (whose life I found fascinating!). Having never seen his chart, but kowing a few basics about astrology, I must say that if this man did not have Uranus prominent in his natal chart, I think the whole field of astrology needs to be re-thinked! He is an absolute POSTER CHILD for all of the planet's legendary attributes: brilliant, maverick, eccentricity, scientific genius, "future"-thinking, electric presence and always-'wired' energy, and that no-nonsense "man of the people" quality that always separated him from others of the wealthy priveleged society he moved in. Plus, he was very tall, a hallmark of Uranus' effect on physique. In my opinion, any plausible birthday/time for him would *HAVE* to position Uranus either rising, VERY tightly aspecting the Ascendant or Sun, or a TON of activity in Aquarius, which of course is ruled by Uranus. Pluto/Scorpio and Jupiter/Sagg, also must feature big in his chart, also, but Uranus is clearly the major influence.

While watching the film, I definitely figured he had Virgo rising with all that germophobic OCD going on.
