The Waxing Moon is released at the beginning of each lunar cycle, to inform you about my astrological take on film professionals, the upcoming full moon, and anything else that draws my attention.
Although he is an Aquarius, Nathan Lane has so much water in his chart that he comes across as much more emotional than a typical water-bearer. My latest essay for Constellation magazine explores the conflicts in his chart that relate to his larger-than-life persona. Check out this innovative online astrology magazine. For every friend you refer, you get an additional month's access for free. You can also visit my Astrology at the Movies blog to read my profile of Jim Carrey, which was featured in the Capricorn issue of Constellation.
Both Virgo and Pisces have service in common. The difference between the signs concerns whom we serve. Virgo is the servant, the service worker, the dutiful and reliable employee. Modest, behind the scenes, we rely on Virgo make sure everything runs smoothly. Pisces serves God. This often means helping the homeless, the drunks, the infirm. Think Mother Theresa. This coming full moon is in Virgo, and will also be an eclipse, which happens twice a year. The light of the Pisces sun illuminates the contrast between these two signs. Conjunct the nodes of the moon (which makes the full moon an eclipse), there is a fated quality to how the Pisces-Virgo theme manifests in our lives. New moons tend to symbolize seeds sown in the self, whereas full moons relate to relationships. When Virgo gets stressed in partnership, she nags, criticizes, gets nit-picky. Although her deeper intention is to improve upon those she loves, she risks alienating them instead. Pisces just wants to go with the flow, to merge with the cosmos, not to think about dust on the shelves. Attentive readers will note that Pluto has been involved in many of the recent full moons. This Virgo eclipse is no different. The sun and moon will be in a tight square (90 degree angle) to Pluto, planet of power and regeneration. Pluto has the uncanny ability to dredge up our dark and dirty secrets, and the Virgo moon wants to clean up the mess. (Pisces wants to sweep it under the rug.)
In a recent NYTimes book review of The Fated Sky: Astrology in History, Dick Teresi writes that belief in astrology is a Type 1 error, "a false alarm, the experience of seeing patterns in meaningless data." If only he took the time to study it for 30 years, as has Richard Tarnas, author of Cosmos and Psyche, a brilliant and thorough overview of how planetary combinations have related to the evolution of the modern worldview.
