The Waxing Moon is released at the beginning of each lunar cycle, to inform you about my astrological take on film professionals, the upcoming full moon, and anything else that draws my attention.
Spike Lee was born on a day in which he could be either a Pisces or an Aries. Which one? In my latest essay for Constellation magazine, I explore his chart in depth to venture a guess. Is there such a thing as an aggressive Pisces? My Nathan Lane essay featured in the Aquarius issue of Constellation is now available on my website. I also have posted an essay on Gregg Araki, an independent filmmaker who released Mysterious Skin a few years ago. This disturbing film about the effects of childhood sexual abuse on two young men reflects the dynamics in the director's chart.
April's full moon is in the sign of peace-making and mediation. Libra appreciates balance, aesthetics and grace, and goes out of her way to please others. Opposite from the Scales lies the Ram, god of war. Aries is about me, me, me -- Libra about we, we, we. During the full moon, our solar egos want to assert our own needs, while our lunar emotional selves want connection through compromise. How does our indecisiveness and equivocating stop us from achieving our goals? At this full moon, Mars is separating from an opposition to Pluto. Mars -- ruler of Aries -- is the action planet. Mars is assertive, aggressive, sexual and hard-working. Pluto, planet of biological force, intensifies this drive. This is a good aspect for war, violence, abuse -- if you're into that sort of thing. If not, focus on a positive goal and apply yourself 110%. With the Sun in Aries and an intense, driven Mars-Pluto opposition, what's a graceful Libra Moon to do? The Sun-Moon and Pluto-Mars oppositions are in harmonious aspect with each other, and all reside in Fire and Air signs, which are considered yang, or masculine. We can draw on the highest good of the Pluto-Mars opposition by working (Mars) powerfully (Pluto) for peace (Libra). You can't make everyone happy -- Mars and Aries don't even CARE about that -- but you can use your Libran skills to help Both Sides find some middle ground to agree on. Invite a hawk to a tea party, serve him a cup of English Breakfast and a scone with clotted creme. Then agreeably discuss what it would take to Bring The Troops Home.
Water, water everywhere. It comes down from the ceiling. It won't stop coming out of the faucet. Water is an unwelcome guest, requiring buckets and $500 plumber bills. Come to think of it, Pluto is an unwelcome guest, wearing muddy boots and dragging in unwanted detritus from the past all over the freshly polished floor.
Listen, I've got a full-time job at a horoscopes website, so life is good to me. But I really miss doing astrology readings. I stare at a computer all day, and I am not utilizing my counseling degree. There's something magical about really "getting" a client during a session, when the chart clicks and someone feels understood. Not that I'm saying you should pay me so that I can get my counseling needs met, but you'll get something out of it too. I'll even see you at night. Or the weekend if you are lucky. Call me. We'll talk.
