  • The Waxing Moon is released at the beginning of each lunar cycle, to inform you about my astrological take on film professionals, the upcoming full moon, and anything else that draws my attention.

    David O. Russell

David O. Sullivan has directed a range of provocative films covering subjects such as incest (Spanking the Monkey), war (Three Kings), and existential despair (I Heart Huckabees). In my latest essay, I explore how he expresses the archetype of Pluto through exploration of taboos, intensity of experience, and "dismantling of the self."

Sagittarius Full Moon - May 23
    Full Moon

Sagittarius inspires us to develop a meaningful philosophy of life, to go on exciting trips to foreign countries, to share our opinions with the world. This zodiac sign is all about expanding our horizons, seeing the Big Picture.

Consider the following questions at the full moon. I've approached the most optimistic sign with the most pessimistic questions:

    • How do you go overboard in life?
    • In which situations do you compensate with arrogance, a belief that your way of life is superior to those of others?
    • How do you bore others with your soap-box tirades?
    • How much of your spiritual or religious practice is puffery, and how much is borne out of the depths of Scorpionic inquiry into the Deep Questions?

    Neptune stops in his tracks
    Neptune

On May 19, Neptune appears to stop moving, and go backwards in its path. This is called station retrograde.

Neptune relates to the desire to transcend one's identity, through mind-expanding practices like meditation, or mind-altering substances. It represents the urge to merge with the One-ness of reality.

In your own chart, Neptune shows where you look for god, what you idealize, how you make sacrifices, where you delude yourself. On the global stage, Neptune relates to oil, viruses, deceptions, falls from grace, water.

Around the station, observe Neptunian events or experiences in your own life, and pay attention to them in the news.
